Enjoy a triplet of mystery snails to add their unique flair to your tank. Mystery snails are excellent members to add to any aquarium. They do a fantastic job at cleaning up algae from all surfaces: substrate, glass, decorations, and even plants. Not only do they not harm healthy living plants, but they help them by scraping off algae that may be growing on their leaves. Unlike with some other snails, it is easy to control the population of mystery snails. They require several inches of air above the water level to lay their eggs, and when they do, they leave large noticeable egg sacks that can easily be removed if babies are not desired. Mystery snails are compatible with shrimp and most community fish and are comfortable in your average community fish tank parameters. In order to keep their shells in good condition, they need slightly alkaline, and moderately hard water, with a pH from about 7.2-8.0 and a gH of about 8–18 degrees (140 - 320 ppm) and kH 12–18 degrees (210-320 ppm). It is a good idea to keep a calcium source available to them such as cuttle bone, egg shells, or diet based supplements. These snails are currently about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter and are rescue snails that exhibit shell damage due to neglect. Notice the pock marks and striping on their shell that indicates their water quality and diet was poor and inconsistent.
