Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 11, 2026

This policy explains what personal information Light Fish Technologies, LLC (“Light Fish”, “we”) collects when you use light.fish, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Light Fish is a marketplace where independent sellers sell to buyers, so some information has to pass between them for orders to work.

What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account: your name, email address, display name and password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form). If you sign up with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile photo with us.
  • Profile and shop: anything you add to your profile or shop, such as a photo, banner, description, location, shipping settings and listings.
  • Orders: the items you buy, your shipping address and any note you leave for the seller.
  • Payments: card payments are handled by Stripe. We receive the card brand and last four digits, never the full card number. Sellers give their identity and bank details directly to Stripe; we receive only the status of their Stripe account.
  • Messages, reviews and claims: messages you send to other users, reviews you write, and the photos and details you send with a Live Arrival Guarantee claim.
  • Support and email replies: anything you send us by email.

Information collected automatically

  • Activity on the site: the pages and listings you view, searches, items you add to your cart or save, and clicks on parts of our pages, such as menus and buttons.
  • How you found us: the website that referred you, the page you first landed on, and campaign tags or ad-click identifiers (such as a Google ad click ID) in the link you followed.
  • Device and connection: your IP address, browser and device type. We use the IP address to estimate your country, using a geolocation database that runs on our own servers.

How we use it

  • To run the marketplace: show listings, process orders and payments, pay sellers, send order and shipping updates, and handle Live Arrival Guarantee claims.
  • To keep Light Fish safe: review listings, prevent fraud, spam and abuse, and investigate reports and disputes. This can include reading messages between users.
  • To send emails: account and order emails; cart reminders to signed-in shoppers; updates from shops you follow; and the weekly email if you’ve signed up for it.
  • To understand how the site is used and how well our advertising works, so we can improve both.
  • To answer you when you contact us, and to meet legal and tax obligations.

Who we share it with

  • The other side of your order. When you buy, the seller receives your name, your shipping address and the details of your order. Buyers see the seller’s shop name and location.
  • The public. Your display name, profile, shop, listings and reviews are public.
  • Companies that run parts of Light Fish for us. They may use your information only to provide their service to us:
    • Stripe: payments, seller payouts and fraud checks.
    • Microsoft Azure: hosting, storage and monitoring the site for errors.
    • Resend: sending and receiving our emails.
    • SmartyStreets: checking and completing shipping addresses.
    • EasyPost: tracking shipments so we know when an order is delivered.
    • Google: sign-in with Google, and Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and Google Ads, which measure visits and the performance of our ads.
    • Anthropic: AI tools that help us review listing photos and text, sort replies to our emails, and draft our own emails to users, using details such as your shop name and activity on Light Fish.
    • Open-Meteo: weather forecasts for shipping, looked up by ZIP code.
    • Discourse: our community forum, if you choose to use it.
  • When the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or Light Fish.
  • If the business changes hands, as part of a merger or sale of Light Fish.

We don’t sell your personal information.

Cookies and similar technology

We use these cookies, and the similar storage built into your browser:

  • Sign-in (lf-cookie): keeps you signed in, for 20 days after your last visit.
  • Visitor ID (lf_session_id, lf_uid_linked): a random ID that lets us count visits and connect your browsing to your account when you sign in. Kept for 1 year.
  • Country (lf_cc): your estimated country, kept for 30 days.
  • How you arrived (lf_first_referrer, lf_first_landing, utm_*, gclid and similar): the site, page and campaign that brought you, kept for 90 days.
  • Google Analytics and Google Ads cookies, set through Google Tag Manager to measure visits and ad performance.
  • Browser storage for a signed-out shopper’s cart, and for how you first arrived.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but signing in and the cart won’t work without them. To limit Google’s ad measurement, see Google’s ad settings.

Your choices

  • Emails: every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. Cart reminders have a “stop cart reminders” link, and you can change your email settings in your account at any time.
  • Your information: you can edit your profile and settings yourself. To get a copy of your information, correct it, or delete your account, email support@light.fish from the address on your account.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information while your account is open. When you close it, we delete your personal information, except order, payment and tax records, which we keep as long as the law requires, and information we need to prevent fraud or settle a dispute. Site activity records are kept for as long as they’re useful for running and improving Light Fish.

Security

We protect your information with encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords and access controls, and payment details are handled by Stripe. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

Children

Light Fish is for adults: you must be 18 or older to create an account or buy. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Where your information is stored

Light Fish is run from the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States.

Changes to this policy

We’ll post any changes here with a new date, and tell you by email or on the site about significant changes before they take effect.
