Zebrafish - Single

The zebrafish is a species of fish belonging to the family Cyprinidae (order Cypriniformes); it is also known as the striped danio or zebra danio. It has a spindle-shaped body. The back is olive-colored, and several longitudinal silver-blue stripes run along the sides of the body—extending from behind the gill covers to the tail—with similar stripes appearing on the anal fin; the caudal fin is long and forked. Males feature lemon-yellow longitudinal stripes, while females display blue stripes interspersed with silver-gray ones. They are characterized by dark blue and silver longitudinal stripes. Their lifespan typically ranges from 2 to 3 years, though some have lived up to 5.5 years. Due to their ease of rearing, short reproductive cycles, high fecundity, external fertilization and development, and transparent embryos, zebrafish have become a popular model organism in life sciences research. There are over 1,500 zebrafish laboratories worldwide. Zebrafish enable the study of fundamental questions in life sciences and the elucidation of molecular mechanisms underlying embryonic, tissue, and organ development. They allow for the creation of models for various human diseases and tumors, as well as the establishment of platforms for drug screening and therapeutic research. Furthermore, they facilitate the development of models for toxicology and aquaculture breeding, helping to address major issues in environmental and agricultural sciences. Zebrafish are also popular ornamental fish, prized for their beautiful colors, ease of care, and resistance to disease.
