Description: Medaka, Japanese rice fish (Oryzias latipes), are hardy colorful fish that have been kept as pets in Japan for hundreds of years. Medaka are very peaceful and are great for nano tanks, planted tanks, community aquariums, and ponds. Miyuki (幹之 or みゆき) medaka have an iridescent line running along the top of the fish and a blue shimmer on their fins. The blue coloration is most intense when displayed on a dark background. The fish have a brilliant white sparkle when viewed from above.
