Once introduced to an aquarium, these snails can multiple rapidly, hiding in the substrate during the day (and providing aeration as they tunnel through the gravel or sand), and coming out at night to eat unsightly and toxic leftover food, cleaning algae, and digesting mulm. Despite aerating the substrate, they do not eat aquatic plants, making them an ideal choice for planted aquascapes where vacuuming the substrate is difficult to do without disturbing delicate root structures.
