They are fascinating livebearers native to Cuba, suitable for community tanks. Appearance: Olive-green body with a bluish-grey back, silvery flanks marked with black-edged scales (creating a "fishnet" pattern), and a white belly. Males have orange-yellow dorsal and anal fins with blue-black spots; females are larger and more subdued, with a yellow patch near the vent. Size: Males reach 5 cm (2 in), females up to 10 cm (4 in). Temperament: Peaceful, social fish that shoal well, often forming mixed groups with mollies and mosquitofish. Tank Requirements: Minimum 15–20 gallons, with preference for slightly brackish, alkaline water (pH 7.0–8.2), though they are adaped to freshwater. Diet: Omnivorous—accepts flakes, pellets, and live/frozen foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms. Breeding: Livebearers; females produce 20–50 fry per brood, with gestation every 4–6 weeks. They are considered easy to care for and a colorful, engaging addition to planted or brackish setups.
