Featuring the round balloon-like body shape from their parents, these fish grow very slow and have a life expectancy of over ten years. All of our fry and juveniles are aquarium-raised and home-bred. Our Blue Platinum Polar Cichlids are double hybrids crossed between a Blue Polar Parrot Cichlid and a Dwarf Platinum Balloon/Jellybean Cichlid. Size: They can grow up to 2.5” as adults in aquariums. Behavior: Usually not aggressive toward their own species; semi-aggressive toward others. Compatibility: They do best in a species-only tank but are compatible with similar cichlids that aren’t too aggressive. Food: Blue Platinum Polar Cichlids will eat cichlid wafers and pellets, cichlid flakes, live or frozen brine shrimp, and blood worms. Increase pellet size as the fish grow, moving to regular sized pellets as they near 2” in length. Water Quality: Blue Platinum Polar Cichlids are very hardy fish and can tolerate a range of water qualities. To err on the side of safety, ensure the pH level is on the positive, alkaline side of neutral and that ammonia levels and nitrates remain low. Keep algae level low, but avoid powerful tank medicines, as they can make your fish catatonic. Change your water as needed, remembering to use Stress Coat after changing and when introducing new fish to your tank.
