Chinese Shrubwood - Amur Honeysuckle (13x1")
Description
Amur honeysuckle was imported to the United States in the 18th century as an ornamental shrub and planted by landscapers to hold topsoil together. It is now considered an invasive species because of it's ability to spread rapidly and take over natural plant communities. I harvest this wood from our land and use it in my fish tanks. I strip the bark off and let it completely dry in the sun. It takes about a week or two to waterlog and sink but you can use a heavy rock to weigh it down and speed the process up. Boiling the wood will help remove air bubbles from the wood and make it sink faster. The tannins from this wood are a reddish/brown color and very pretty. $10/piece Please let me know if you have any questions. I have a lot of wood and can do custom orders.
