Ricefish (genus Oryzias) are small, peaceful freshwater fish native to Asia gaining popularity in the aquarium hobby for their hardiness, interesting breeding behavior, and growing variety of cultivated strains. On Light Fish you'll find ricefish listed by hobbyists and breeders, including Japanese medaka in standard, hi-body, and rare color forms — white, gold, black, blue, and various patterned varieties. Ricefish are unique in that females carry fertilized eggs attached to their bodies before depositing them on plants.
